What is Category Filter in vMAP?

Category is one of the dynamic filtering features in vMAP. With the Category filter, you can filter and calculate different values (for example: sum, average, minimum or maximum) of data fields (up to 5 different fields) and display the results in the Category panel. For example, you can filter and calculate low income, middle income, and high income populations from demographic polygons. These three types of populations are considered the Category, and their population numbers will be counted and displayed in the Category panel.

How to set the Category filter?

Please follow the following instructions to set up the Category filter:

Step 1. To add a Category filter, click the plus1 button on the left side of Layer Manager panel and click the Category icon to activate the tab.

Step 2.
Set the name and fields.

  • Name the Category and add a new description.
  • Select Layer and Field. Select a field to calculate its average, maximum value, etc.
  • Select a calculation operation from the drop-down list of COUNT (number of values), SUM (sum of values), AVG (average of values), MAX (maximum value), MIN (minimum value).
  • Set the Group by field. The Group by field is the field that you set as the Category. As the Category value changes, the value you want to filter and display will also change simultaneously both on the mapview and the Color filter panel.

Step 3. To save the changes and proceed to see the result of Category, click the save button. The Category result will be displayed in the Color Filter panel. (See screenshot below)
