What is the vMAP mapview toolbar used for?

Located at the bottom of the vMAP main page, the multiple tools in the vMAP toolbar enable users to edit and manage the mapview being displayed in the main page area.




The Toolbar Tools

The following section introduces the 19 tools of vMAP toolbar.

To select objects on the mapview, please refer to the Tool 1-5:




Tool 1. Selection Tool

The vMAP Selection Tool allows you to click on an object from a layer on the mapview to inspect it. It also allows you to drag the mapview to reset its center. You can do so by following these steps:

Step 1. To move the location of a map, select the , click and drag the map to a desired location.

Step 2. To zoom in on the selected area, press and hold down the [shift] key while dragging your cursor over the map.


Tool 2. Free Selection

To select objects from the mapview based on overlap with a target area, use the Free Selection Tool.

Tool 3. Selection by Objects
 

By using the Selection by Objects Tool, you can load an object (point / line / polygon) onto the mapview and choose to perform one of the following two operations:
 

Intersect: select and display all objects that intersect with the loaded objects on the mapview.

Inherit: Select and display all the objects that are included by the loaded object. (Note: If the loaded object is a point, it can not include other objects)

Tool 4. Selection by Attributes
 

To select objects in a layer by attributes, use the Selection By Attributes Tool.   You can select objects from a layer based on their attributes, include but not limited to::

Address

Postcode

Site name

Tool 5. Search by Radius
 

To select objects of a particular layer by distance (within a specified radius),  use the Select By Radius Tool.  There are three distance options (distance types) you can choose from:

radius in metres

route in metres

route in minutes

Tool 6. Clear Temporary Objects
 

Click on the Eraser icon to activate the Clear tool to delete all temporary objects from your map when necessary.

Tool 10. Measure Distance

To measure distance between multiple points, please follow these steps:

Step 1. Select the icon from the toolbar, click on the mapview to select the desired start point and click on the mapview again to decide the other point for distance measurement.

(Note: The yellow point label displays the distance between two adjacent points. The grey point label displays the distance from the first point to the final or destination point.)

Step 2. To exit the measurement mode, double-click on the mapview, and click the icon once more.

Step 3. To clear measurement information, click the icon and use it to delete all temporary points/lines/polygons from your map when necessary.



Tool 11. Measure Area

To measure a selected area on mapview, follow the below steps:

Step 1. To create a temporary polygon for area measurement, click the icon. Click multiple points on the mapview to draw an area, double click the mouse to save the area. The polygon label displays the measurement of the selected polygon area (e.g., 360.5 km2). (See the blue polygon in the screenshot below.)

Step 2. To exit the measurement mode, click the icon again.

Step 3. To clear the measurement information, click the button.

Tool 17. Reset Mapview
 

You can click on the button to return to the default map center and zoom level of the original mapview.

Tool 18. Share Mapview

By clicking on the button on the toolbar, you can share mapview. Please check out Share map to view the detailed steps.

Tool 19. Switch Background Map

Background maps are a set of available basemaps which are pre-configured in the vMAP Admin Center by the system administrators. Currently, vMAP supports Google map, Bing map, OSM map and HERE map.

Locate the background map icon  at the bottom right of the mapview page. (See the red box in the below screenshot) To switch the background map, follow these steps:

Step 1. Click the  icon to reveal all available background maps and select the desired one.

Step 2. To change background map, click at the bottom right corner of the mapview.
